DNA is the primary component used in the incubation process to determine the type of pet that will be created and is represented in game by an item called DNA Storage Device.

Extract DNA
- The primary method of obtaining DNA is with the Extract DNA ability
- At least one point must be spent in Beast Master expertise to extract DNA
- Quality percent from extraction is random and not affected by the level of the creature
- DNA Harvesting expertise increases the minimum quality percent of extracted DNA by 5% per point for a total of 15%
- Luck, food, drink, and other buffs do not improve the quality percent
- Extraction will fail about 60% of the time resulting in no DNA
- DNA can only be extracted once per creature - success or failure
- DNA cannot be extracted while in combat
- Corpses may be extracted, but only if the ability was not used when it was alive
- Not all creatures have extractable DNA
- Extraction may, but not always, cause the creature to attack
- There is no slash command to extract DNA - you must use /ui action toolbarSlot## (see Macros)
How to Extract
- Ensure that the Extract DNA ability is on your toolbar
- Ensure that you are not in combat
- Target the creature you wish to extract DNA from - dead or alive
- Approach to within 5 meters of your target
- Activate the Extract DNA ability from your toolbar

Collection Reward DNA
- See: Slayer Collections for a list of collections that award DNA
- Quality Percent is always 90.00% for reward dna, but does not provide the same bonus as Legacy DNA
- Like other DNA Storage Devices, reward dna is tradable and can mutate [1]

Legacy DNA
- Pets that were tamed or bio-engineered in the old Creature Handler days can be converted into the current Beast Master system and are called Legacy Pets
- Legacy pets show no stats in your datapad and cannot be called
- To convert a pet, radial (right click) it in the datapad and select Stuff - creating a tradable decoration item
- With the stuffed pet in your inventory, there is a radial option to Extract DNA which places a tradable DNA Storage Device in your inventory
- While all pets may be stuffed, Legacy stuffed pets are different than normal stuffed pets
- Legacy pets are larger
- Legacy pets have no base
- Only Legacy stuffed pets have the extract dna option - this means that once the dna is incubated and hatched, you will not be able to extract again
- DNA extracted from a Legacy pet will always be 90% and give a 5% bonus to the top isomerase enzyme for a slight increase to armor and/or dps - See: Mathematics
- Legacy DNA will never mutate, not even a stat mutation - so the lyase and isomerase colors do not matter
Valuable Legacy Pets
Several pets were creatable under the old system that are now mutations or no longer available. Legacy DNA for these pets is extremely valuable.
Blistmok mutation of a Blurrg
Bolotaur available from the quest The_Imprisoned_Geonosian
Graul unknown
Kubaza unknown
Kimogila unknown
Rancor mutation for an Angler
Horned Rasp not available because of targeting issues
Plumed Rasp not available because of targeting issues
Crystal Snake not available because of targeting issues
Spined Snake not available because of targeting issues
Fanned Rawl not available because of targeting issues
90% DNA
DNA that shows 90% quality is misleading and, unfortunately, from looking at the dna item by itself there's no way to tell where it came from. The following table shows all possible sources of a 90% dna and if it will mutate or not.
Source Can Mutate Armor/DPS Bonus Legacy from a stuffed pre-nge pet No Yes Extracted from a dead creature Yes No Collection reward from slayer Yes ^ No Quest reward Yes ^^ No
^ No one has ever reported a mutation on a slayer reward dna, but devs have said that it is possible
^^ The wampa has been confirmed to mutate - the tauntaun, bolotaur, and chuba have not been confirmed
DNA FAQ
Can we get DNA from Krayts?
- No. See: Request:Rare Mutations
What can I do with my legacy pets?
- You can leave them in your datapad, extract DNA (one time only) or stuff them to use as decoration. See: Legacy Pets
How do I get DNA from a legacy pet I bought/traded?
- You stuff it if it has not already been stuffed and radial, then select extract DNA. This destroys the pet "deed" and replaces with a piece of DNA. This will permainently destroy the large stuffed pet decoration. See: Legacy Pets
